Sutton Kersh’s May auction saw a great selection of properties both in and out of the city. Regions that saw a particular interest were St Helens, Wigan and North Wales.
Cathy Holt, associate director of Sutton Kersh auctions said: “We are seeing a lot of investor interest in the outlying regions of Liverpool at the moment, particularly Wigan and St Helens. Buyers are looking for rental and development opportunities in areas with good potential. Some of our lots in St Helens in particular saw fierce bidding, with many going for well above the guide price.”
She added: “The increased interest definitely points to a growing confidence in the housing market within commuter areas of the City Region.”
Properties which saw competitive bidding included lot 84, a three-bedroom terrace on Pitt Street, St Helens, which sold for £13,500 above the £40,000 guide price and a three bed terrace on Cecil Street, St Helens, with a guide of £40,000 which sold for £58,500.
Other areas which saw strong investment interest included North Wales, Wigan and Warrington.
In Holywell, a Grade II Tabernacle church with good redevelopment opportunities sold for £25,000. Churches have been popular sales this year so far in the Sutton Kersh auctions. Lot four, a two bed terrace on Coronation Street in Ince, Wigan, sold for £40,000 and also a two bed mid terrace in Platt Bridge, Wigan, sold for £32k.
Bidding was also competitive for properties in Liverpool. A selection of three-bedroom residential investment properties sold for a considerable amount more than the suggested guide price including lot 65, a three bed in L4 that sold for £20,000 more than expected.
Two, three storey converted properties with apartments received particular interest with the one in Bertram Road, Sefton Park selling for 50,000 more than the asking price. Also a prime piece of development land on Wood Street L1 sold for 51,000 over the guide price.
In total Sutton Kersh offered 99 lots at their May auction, and after strong bidding from a packed auction, over 70 lots were sold, bringing in sales of over £4.3 million so far, with sale’s figures still rising.
The next auction is on the 14th July, at the Crowne Plaza. Closing date for entries is the 17th June.
